What we are, what we want. : the Manifesto of IIF Foundation

In September 2013, we founded the Italian Institute for the Future to create, in Italy too, a “movement for the future” that would combine the affirmation of the discipline of Futures Studies and social foresight with an awareness of the long-term challenges we face and which require a paradigm shift in order to be successfully addressed.

Twelve years later, much progress has been made, but much remains to be done. The creation of the IIF-Italian Institute for the Future Foundation responds to the conviction that those involved in these issues in Italy are called upon to make an even more intense and systematic commitment to guide the action of the coming years in the direction we believe is most necessary, in the awareness that this is precisely the most delicate moment: parallel to the dissemination and popularization of the “future,” phenomena of future washing may arise, i.e., an instrumental, unconscious, and utilitarian use of future studies—with the risk of closing off the future itself once again.

What we are, what we want is the Manifesto of the IIF-Italian Institute for the Future Foundation, whose vision we are committed to adhering to in our daily actions, and we ask for this commitment from all those who wish to support the IIF-Italian Institute for the Future Foundation project in any way.
